Astragalus, lat. Astragalus membranaceus (tragacanth) is a plant from Asia that is used particularly in traditional Chinese medicine. In TCM, Astragalus is used for weakness and lack of energy. The active ingredients of the plant increase metabolism and energy production in the cells, thereby giving an energy boost and improving existing strength and endurance. The polysaccharides, isoflavonoids and saponins stimulate the immune system and fight inflammation, which is beneficial for allergies. Studies show that allergic symptoms decrease significantly after taking Astragalus.
The latest research has shown that Astragalus root can be helpful for type 2 diabetes, as it can partially increase the responsiveness to insulin. Astragalus is rich in important fatty acids, amino acids and minerals such as calcium, iron and selenium, which underlines its strengthening effect.
