Tanacetum partenium is similar in appearance to the chamomile and is often called the False Chamomile. It is wild everywhere in Europe. The active ingredient pathenolide in the herbs reduces migraine attacks, has a soothing and digestive effect.
For migraine prophylaxis it should be taken over a long period of time. Because it promotes blood circulation, it can trigger menstruation. Because of this property, it should not be administered during pregnancy, lactation, in small children. It also has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects (inhibits prostaglandin formation and histamine release as well as platelet clumping) and has traditionally been used in rheumatic complaints and as a fever-controlling agent.
