Spirulina, a bacterium from the genus of cyanobacteria that occurs in tropical lakes, uses solar energy, minerals from the water and carbon dioxide to grow and multiply. It is accordingly rich in the green chlorophyll that it forms through photosynthesis, beta-carotene and the blue-green pigment phycocyanin, minerals and vitamins. These bioactive substances can be easily absorbed by the human body. Spirulina is particularly rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, selenium and potassium, vitamins A, B, E, enzymes and antioxidants. Unlike microalgae such as chlorella, spirulina does not have cellulose walls, which means that the ingredients can be better absorbed.
Chlorella is a freshwater algae that, due to its deep green color, has a high chlorophyll content, many minerals and vitamins. Chlorella is said to have a detoxifying effect (which has so far been little proven).
